Across Europe the right of intersex people to bodily autonomy is still regularly and greviously violated. However, things are changing. In 2019 the European Parliament adopted a milstone Resolution on the rights of intersex people (http://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/TA-8-2019-0128_EN.html).
The resolution pointed to the “urgent need to address violations of the human rights of intersex people”, and “calls on the Commission and the Member States to propose legislation to address these issues”.
Today and tomorrow (23. & 24. Sept 2019), the high level conference “Advancing LGBTI Equality in the EU: from 2020 and beyond”, organzied by the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the European Union is taking place in Brussels. The conference will give high level government representatives and LGBTI NGO’s from across the EU the opportunity to discuss how to best ensure LGBTI rights.
